Whether you are camping, backpacking, or just dealing with your everyday household chores and handiwork, having a multi tool at your disposal is invaluable. However, finding a decent multi tool with a good build quality at a reasonable price point can be a challenge. The branded multi tools are expensive and the affordable ones feel cheap or flimsy.
This is where Nextool comes in with their Flagship Pro (Dark) NE20120. We managed to get our hands on it and have been testing it for quite some time. And during our use, we have to admit that Nextool knocked it out of the park with their Flagship Pro multi tool.
The quality and functionality of Nextool’s multi tool can easily be compared to some of the high-end offerings in the market at only a fraction of the cost. If all of this seems intriguing, then let’s dive into the Nextool Flagship Pro (Dark) NE20120 and see what makes it so special.
What’s Inside The Box?
Before we get into the technical specifications and applications, let’s first talk about the box and what we found inside it. The box itself is nothing out of the ordinary. It has the typical Nextool branding and a picture of the multi tool on the front of the box. Apart from that, you will find a list of some of the technical specs on the back.
After taking off the plastic wrap and opening the box, we found a pouch that contained the multi tool as well as an instruction manual. Putting that aside, we found a pair of extra cutting blades and screws. Then we opened the pouch to reveal the star of the show – the Nextool Flagship Pro. We have to give credit where credit is due because the black Nextool Flagship Pro looks absolutely stunning.
There are two color variants of the Flagship Pro – silver and black. For our review, we went for the black multi tool, or as Nextool likes to call it – their Dark edition. The black finish gives it a very tactical and sleek look. However, if the black color isn’t your cup of tea, then you can also opt for the silver version.
Key Features
Build Quality
Holding the Nextool Flagship Pro gives a very premium and sturdy-feeling which is reminiscent of multi tools with a higher price tag. The build quality of this everyday carry (EDC) is superb as it is constructed from 5 kinds of alloy steel, which prevents corrosion and ensures excellent longevity. Furthermore, the surface is finished with stonewash which gives this EDC an aged effect. We love the rugged design and heft of it, as it not only looks nice but also provides a very comfortable grip.
Tools
The Nextool Flagship Pro opens with a satisfying snap that reveals the pliers. However, what makes this multi tool stand out is that it comes with both pliers and scissors. This is quite a rare feature to have as most multitools come with either one or the other. You can find the scissors on the opposite end of the pliers which makes them convenient to use. Furthermore, you get a total of 16 tools contained within this EDC. They are:
- Needlenose pliers
- Regular pliers
- Premium replaceable wire cutters
- Premium replaceable hard-wire cutters
- Thick-wire cutters
- Saw
- Knife
- Ruler
- Glass breaker
- Scissors
- Philips screwdriver
- Line cutter
- Can opener
- Wire stripper
- Bottle opener
- Flat screwdriver
Applications
You can use the Nextool Flagship Pro (Dark) NE20120 for almost any kind of household chores. From cutting to screwing in nuts and bolts, you can practically do anything with this multi-tool. However, the Flagship Pro truly shines when used outdoors. You can use it to construct make-shift spears, stakes, etc. while camping. It is compact and handy enough to be used in tight spaces. The pliers are especially impressive as you get a few different kinds of them. And their cutting performance is commendable too.
The Nextool Flagship Pro (Dark) NE20120 also features a robust knife made from 5Cr15MoV stainless steel which makes it corrosion-resistant. With a hardness rating of HRC50, you can be reassured that the knife won’t break. You can use it for most of your cutting requirements regardless if you are at home or outdoors.
It has a safe locking structure that enhances the overall performance, longevity, and security of the tool. The locking design helps to reduce friction and binding. On top of that, you also get a knife for some light to medium cutting tasks. But we personally liked the scissors a lot. It’s a 38mm long scissor that shares the same handle as the pliers. Besides that, all the other tools that come with this EDC worked perfectly and did not disappoint at all.
Ending Thoughts
Multitools are largely considered to be a “Jack of all trades, but master of none”. That is because these tools are capable of doing almost anything. But their performance is limited when compared to full-sized tools.
However, as a multi tool, the Nextool Flagship Pro (Dark) NE20120 is a phenomenal choice as it offers a lot of premium features that are usually exclusive to high-end EDCs. Overall, the Nextool Flagship Pro (Dark) NE20120 gets a solid recommendation from us for being the most affordable yet premium-feeling multi tool that we tried.
